PBF Drainage Services Ltd (PBF) was established in 2012 and has become on the most highly respected drainage companies in the country. With extensive experience and knowledge, they’ve worked alongside some of the largest companies in the world to set up and back up to support various sized projects.
The project involved installing a full length of lining measuring at 180m (in two separate lengths) to a DN150 VC pipe that ran from the private treatment works to the outfall in the Sea. Access for works were proving to be difficult due to large treatment tanks, various pipes, and electrical conduits from the treatment works, while their access to the middle chamber was via a small, very overgrown track, through a heavily wooded and boggy area with little to no access for equipment.
PBF found that the last chamber before the outfall was located just above the high tide mark on the beech located on hard standing and with plenty of space.
The discharge pipe needing repair had substantial amounts of root ingress, multiple infiltration locations and various cracks and fractures along its length. The system itself had high flows during wet weather and the outfall pipe was backfilling during high tide and so there was limited working windows.
Due to the limited working times between high and low tide, and the amount of infiltration, traditional CIPP lining methods, LED and UV curing methods and spray coating could not be used during this project.
PBF Drainage Services Ltd have worked closely with S1E and Picote for many years on various projects from brush coating applications, Picote milling machinery and Picote tooling for removing failed liners, hardened deposits, and concrete. PBF Drainage have a vast array of equipment to carry out all these tasks and continues to work very closely with S1E being PBF Drainage trusted supplier of Picote equipment and materials.
After discussing the works and the diverse options with, Terry Ingleby, General Manager at S1E the consensus was to use a new product from Picote. S1E have an excellent knowledge of drainage rehabilitation, and after discussing the new Picote Flexi-Sliplining™ method, the decision was made.
This would be the first use of the Picote slip lining method in the UK another first for PBF Drainage.
PBF have previously carried out a slip lining method on various projects as an alternative to traditional CIPP lining. Traditional slip lining requires access pits, large winching or pushing equipment, expensive pipe welding equipment, and additional labour and plant on site. However, the Picote Flexi-Sliplining™ method does not require any excavation, having a small portable welding rig, lightweight materials, and being very flexible meant that all the works could be carried out from the existing chambers and utilising the ground space on site.
Picote Flexi-Sliplining™ is a Trenchless rehabilitation system with is a low-emission for non-pressure pipes DN100-300 (4-12").
Using Picote Flexi-Sliplining™ PBF Drainage Services, alongside Metro Mechanicals in-house team and onsite support from Picote; were able to secure all the pipes into the existing chambers, repair the benching and have all works completed within 2 days on site.
“We’ve worked closely on multiple projects over the years with S1E. With this project, we had many discussions to determine the correct solution for the type of work. Involving S1E from the start made this project run smoothly from start to finish, as S1E has helped supply the materials and the equipment rental for the project as well as arranging the delivery and training for the process. Terry Ingleby is a wealth of knowledge and has an excellent relationship with us here at PBF Drainage,” says James Stern, Director at PBF Drainage Services Ltd.
He continued, “PBF Drainage Services Ltd would like to thank Metro Mechanical Services Ltd for their continued work stream, S1E and Terry Ingleby for their ongoing support as well as Picote for the training and support.”
Terry Ingleby, General Manager at S1E Ltd said, “Well done to the team at PBF, it’s great to continue to work closely with James and the team, and great to see their work bringing solutions to the CIPP industry. We’re proud to have shared this project with them and Picote.”
